Dhaka Bank Auto Loan Review: Fixed EMI, Fair Fees

Our verdict

Dhaka Bank's Auto Loan is a solid choice for buying a car in Bangladesh, mainly because the EMI is fixed for the whole loan, at a time when floating rates have jumped. The processing fee is capped at Tk 15,000, used and reconditioned cars are covered, and a free tracker is included. Our own team member had a good experience. Ask for the full schedule of charges and, for a hybrid or electric car, whether the newer, higher limits apply.

How it scores

What we like

  • Fixed EMI for the whole loan, not affected by market rate changes
  • Processing fee capped at Tk 15,000 (0.5% of the loan)
  • Finances new, reconditioned and used cars
  • Up to 6 years for brand-new cars
  • Up to Tk 60 lakh for new and reconditioned cars
  • Free vehicle tracking system
  • A Dhaka Debates team member reports a good experience

What could be better

  • Interest rate not printed on the loan page
  • Early settlement and late payment charges not listed on the loan page
  • Used cars need a 50% down payment
  • Page still shows 70:30 and Tk 60 lakh for hybrids, behind Bangladesh Bank's May 2026 rules (80:20, Tk 80 lakh)
  • Long document list, including spouse and guarantor papers and IT-10B
  • Online calculator only goes up to Tk 35 lakh

Dhaka Bank’s Auto Loan does three things well. Your EMI stays fixed for the whole loan, so a jump in market rates cannot push up your monthly payment. The processing fee is capped at Tk 15,000. And it finances brand-new, reconditioned and used cars, with a free vehicle tracking system thrown in. A member of our own team financed a car with Dhaka Bank and had a good experience. Here is what the loan offers, what it costs, and what to check before you sign.

How we reviewed this loan

We read Dhaka Bank’s Auto Loan page, eligibility and document lists, and used its online loan calculator, in November 2026. We checked Bangladesh Bank’s current car loan rules and recent reporting on car prices and loan rates in Bangladesh. We also include the experience of a Dhaka Debates team member who took a Dhaka Bank auto loan. EMI figures are our own calculations. Dhaka Bank did not review this article, and we have no commercial relationship with the bank.

Our experience

A member of the Dhaka Debates team financed a car through Dhaka Bank’s Auto Loan and describes it as a good experience. That stands in contrast to the same team’s experience with an adjustable-rate home loan elsewhere, where the rate rose sharply within a year (see our DBH home loan review). With a fixed EMI, a car loan is far easier to budget for: you know the payment on day one and it does not move.

One person’s experience is not a guarantee. Service can vary by branch and by your own profile. But it is a useful sign alongside the published terms.

The fixed EMI: the main reason to choose it

Dhaka Bank says stability in EMI is “one of our best features” and that it is “not affected by fluctuating market rates.” That matters in Bangladesh right now. Consumer loan rates rose from about 8% to 9% in 2022 to 12% to 15% in 2025, according to Bangladesh Bank figures reported by The Daily Star. On a variable-rate loan, a rise like that feeds straight into your instalment. With a fixed EMI, it does not.

Ask the bank to confirm in your sanction letter that both the rate and the EMI are fixed for the full tenure.

Interest rate

Dhaka Bank does not print a car loan rate on its Auto Loan page. Its website loan calculator, however, gives an EMI of Tk 22,245 for a Tk 10 lakh car loan over 60 months. Working backwards, that is about 12% a year (our calculation). Treat this as a guide: your actual rate depends on your profile, and partnership offers can be lower. Dhaka Bank has, for example, offered preferential car loan rates to some Grameenphone GPStar customers and through dealer tie-ups.

What the EMI looks like

Monthly instalments and total interest at 12% (our calculation):

Loan3 years5 years6 years (new cars only)
Tk 10 lakhTk 33,214 (interest Tk 1.96 lakh)Tk 22,244 (interest Tk 3.35 lakh)Tk 19,550 (interest Tk 4.08 lakh)
Tk 20 lakhTk 66,429 (interest Tk 3.91 lakh)Tk 44,489 (interest Tk 6.69 lakh)Tk 39,100 (interest Tk 8.15 lakh)
Tk 35 lakhTk 1,16,250 (interest Tk 6.85 lakh)Tk 77,856 (interest Tk 11.7 lakh)Tk 68,426 (interest Tk 14.3 lakh)

Two things to notice. Moving from 5 to 6 years on a Tk 20 lakh loan saves about Tk 5,400 a month but costs about Tk 1.46 lakh more in interest. And a car loses value every year, so a shorter loan keeps you from owing more than the car is worth.

How much you need to put down

Dhaka Bank lends up to 60% of the price of a non-hybrid new or reconditioned car, up to 70% for hybrid and electric cars, and up to 50% for a used car. For example (our calculation):

  • A Tk 30 lakh non-hybrid reconditioned car: loan up to Tk 18 lakh; you pay Tk 12 lakh.
  • A Tk 30 lakh hybrid: loan up to Tk 21 lakh; you pay Tk 9 lakh.
  • A Tk 20 lakh used car: loan up to Tk 10 lakh; you pay Tk 10 lakh.

Remember that registration, insurance and other on-road costs come on top of your down payment.

Bangladesh Bank’s newer rules for green cars

In May 2026, Bangladesh Bank raised the car loan ceiling for electric and hybrid vehicles to Tk 80 lakh and allowed banks to finance up to 80% of their price (an 80:20 ratio, up from 70:30), while keeping 60:40 for conventional cars, The Financial Express reported. Dhaka Bank’s page still lists 70:30 and a Tk 60 lakh maximum. If you are buying a hybrid or electric car, ask whether the bank now offers the higher limit. Note too that the bank’s online calculator only goes up to Tk 35 lakh, so get a written quote for larger loans.

Fees and charges

LoanProcessing fee (0.5%, max Tk 15,000)With 15% VAT (our calculation)
Tk 10 lakhTk 5,000Tk 5,750
Tk 20 lakhTk 10,000Tk 11,500
Tk 30 lakh or moreTk 15,000 (cap)Tk 17,250

The cap makes Dhaka Bank especially good value for larger loans. Dhaka Bank’s loan page does not list its early settlement, partial prepayment or late payment charges. Ask for the schedule of charges before you sign, along with the cost of the CIB report, stamp charges and car insurance.

Free vehicle tracking

Every Dhaka Bank car loan comes with a free vehicle tracking system. It protects the bank’s security, but it is also useful to you if the car is stolen. Ask who can see the tracking data and whether there is any subscription cost after the loan ends.

Documents you will need

Everyone

  • Completed application form and signed CIB undertaking
  • Recent passport-size photos of the applicant, any co-applicant, spouse and guarantor, attested by the branch manager
  • NID or passport copies of the same people, attested
  • Latest TIN with a certified copy of IT-10B (statement of assets and liabilities) for the applicant, co-applicant, spouse and third-party guarantor, where applicable
  • Personal bank statement: last 6 months for salaried people, last year for business people and others
  • Sanction letter and statement for any existing loan
  • A price quotation for the car, accepted by you
  • A recent electricity bill if you live in a self- or family-owned home

Income proof by profession

  • Salaried: salary certificate or letter of introduction; 3 months’ pay slips if paid in cash; bank statement showing salary if paid into a bank
  • Business owners: trade licence at least 3 years old; partnership deed or RJSC company papers; company bank statement for a year; details of any company loans
  • Professionals: BMDC certificate for doctors, Bar Council certificate for lawyers, other professional certificates, and a self-declaration of monthly income on your letterhead
  • Property owners: a copy of the ownership deed and a paid gas or electricity bill

The list is long. Note in particular that the bank asks for documents from your spouse and a guarantor, so involve them early.

Is now a good time to buy?

Car sales in Bangladesh fell to about 9,400 private cars in 2025, the lowest in 13 years, as a weaker taka, higher import duties and loan rates of 12% to 15% pushed up the cost of owning a car, The Daily Star reported. An entry-level car that cost about Tk 16 lakh now costs about Tk 24 lakh, according to industry insiders. That makes a fixed-rate loan with a low, capped fee more valuable, but it also makes it important not to over-borrow.

A sensible rule: keep the car EMI plus your other loan payments well below half of your take-home pay, and leave room for fuel, maintenance, insurance, a driver and parking.

Questions to ask before you sign

  1. What exact rate am I being offered, and are the rate and EMI fixed for the whole loan?
  2. What are the early settlement, partial prepayment and late payment charges?
  3. For a hybrid or electric car, do you now lend 80% and up to Tk 80 lakh under the new Bangladesh Bank rules?
  4. Is there a dealer or partner offer with a lower rate for my car?
  5. What does insurance cost, and must I buy it through the bank?
  6. How long will approval and disbursement take after I submit everything?

Who it’s for, and who should skip it

Good fit: salaried professionals and established business owners who want a predictable monthly payment, are buying a new, reconditioned or used car, and are borrowing a larger amount where the Tk 15,000 fee cap saves money.

Think twice: first-time borrowers without the paperwork (3-year trade licence, IT-10B, a guarantor), anyone buying a used car who cannot put down 50%, and buyers of hybrid or electric cars until the bank confirms whether it applies the newer, more generous limits. If you need a smaller, unsecured amount instead, see our Standard Chartered personal loan review.

How to apply

  1. Choose your car and get a price quotation from the dealer.
  2. Apply online on Dhaka Bank’s Auto Loan page, call 16474, or visit a branch.
  3. Submit the application, CIB undertaking, ID, tax and income documents for you and any co-applicant, spouse and guarantor.
  4. Pay your equity share to the dealer, read the sanction letter, and sign.
  5. The bank pays the dealer, the tracker is fitted, and your fixed EMIs begin.
